It's that time of year (already??!!) when the mornings and evenings are starting to get cooler, the leaves are changing color, the sweaters are making their way to the front of the closet, and the kids are starting to ask for hot chocolate instead of lemonade. I LOVE this time of year for all the beauty and enjoyment it offers! One thing we LOVE about having guest designers is inviting them come up with a fun challenge for all of you. We are so excited to bring you another challenge this month - this one from one of our August Guest Designers, Amy Wheeler:

There were soooo many great patterns in the August kit it was hard to decide which side of each paper to use and even harder to narrow down the options for a layout. My challenge this month is to use 5 or more patterned papers on your layout. I used seven on my layout "Hey Cupcake(s)" and can't wait to see what your take is on this challenge.

Hello Paper Posies friends! We took a little time off during the summer with challenges, but we're back this month with something fun for you. ;) Hopefully you all are receiving your amazing August kits about now packed full with Basic Grey goodness! If not, they'll be arriving any day now. Woohoo!

I'm a huge fan of using sketches when I scrapbook, so I thought it would be fun to do a sketch challenge this month. Liz Chedester has a fun sketch site, called The Scrappiest that I enjoy following and she agreed to let us use one of her fabulous sketches this month! I chose Sketch 127:

August Kit Altered Project

Hi Everyone!!!! If you haven’t purchased the New Paper Posies August Kit yet here’s another reason: THE ALTERED PROJECT is amazing!!!!

Here’s is a sample of what I did with the Maya Road Chipboard Canvas Book.

Couple tid bits about the book.

I used Ink spray on the canvas and what is great is the canvas comes off the chipboard … it’s a BOOK COVER!!! The embellishments and paper stick great on the canvas using glue dots, stitching, or staples. You can add as much as want to this book. As you can see I included a map and postcards from my travels. Hope you were inspired today!!!

Hi Paper Posies friends! I hope you all have received the June kit - it's a fun, summer kit and I hope you are having a great time creating summertime projects with it!

I have a few projects to share with you today using this kit. This first one I'm proud of because I got so many photos on a ONE page layout and it works! What do you think?

This next one highlights the great sticker sheet with all sorts of labels and accents that was included in the kit. I decided to add a few little ink splots on it when I was finished and pushed a little too hard.... and ended up with the ink spray at the bottom. Oh well, I'm trying to be okay with how it turned out. :)

And finally - a Father's Day card for my Dad. Gotta get this baby in the mail TODAY so it gets to him on time! A fun little trick... the "dad" letters are actually the yellow Pink Paislee foam letters included in the kit, but I inked them with some dark brown distress ink to give them a different look.

(side note: I got the idea for the design of this card from the Elle's Studio blog, loved the use of tags and the slanted focus. :) There's inspiration everywhere!)

Layout Share !!!

Hello Paper Posies Fans Patty here, to share a quick layout with you. Have you ordered your May kit yet?? Well here’s another reason on why you should get it. Every time I get new kits, I try to figure out how I can “BOY UP” my extremely girly papers, I love. This kit is no exception; it’s like jumping in a Spring Garden!!! For us girls this is AWESOME. A couple weekends ago we took my son to his first air show. I couldn’t wait to scrap the pictures. So who said Air Show pictures can’t be scrapped with polka dot airplanes!!!

I used my silhouette die cut machine to add some fun patterned planes. I loved the sticker from the Jillibean Cardstock Stickers (in the May kit) saying “Let your dreams take flight”. With that, I cut out some more butterflies <<< there my favorite.

So there it is a happy spring boy page that puts a smile on my face. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Can you believe MAY is just around the corner?

Lots and lots of circles, right? And in all shapes and sizes... some are rings, some are solid, some are brads, some are paper flowers... but they're everywhere!

Patty here and I’m bringing you another weekly challenge. I’m so glad to do this week, because it’s the week of LOVE. One of my favorite layouts I made this month with the February Paper Posies kit has to be this one.

I love this layout because instead of doing normal life story journaling, I used a song that describes the wonderful relationship I have with my husband.

So my challenge to for you ... Make any size LAYOUT of a loved one using a song that may describe your relationship. It could be your mom, kids, or even a best friend. Remember, use a Paper Posies kit - and ANY past Paper Posies kit is fine.

Hello! Melanie here--so excited to post for the first time on the Paper Posies blog :)

I get to bring you the weekly challenge today. One of my favorite types of layouts to make is a "review" layout. This particular layout is a review of January 2011. I used some photos that I hadn't scrapped yet this month and then wrote a summary of our month. This is a great way to 1) use extra photos from the month, 2) write down the month's highlights, and 3) see what you need to take more pictures of next month (I discovered I only had photographs of my sons this month--LOL).

Pick out some pictures from January and scrap your month in review. This is your challenge for the week. Be sure to use a Paper Posies kit and upload it to the gallery by Sunday night Feb. 5th.

Sources tell me that Michele will be sending out a goody package to a participant of January's weekly challenges. Be sure to post a comment here to let me know when you posted to the Paper Posies gallery!

Weekly Challenge {Week of January 17th}

This weeks challenge is all about YOU! To be more specific, about becoming a better you. There is always something we can work on to make better about ourselves. So this week I want you to create a layout about becoming a better you! This will be a series of 4 weeks, the final challenge coming in April. (Make a list of things you want to make better and we will be working on those over the next 3 months. You can even incorporate this into your yearly resolutions or goals.)

Here's what I came up with using a photo of me at the beach....my favorite place to think and reflect on life.

Use your January Paper Posies Kit or any other Paper Posies Kit you have on hand. Post your challenge image in the gallery before the evening of January 23rd and then link it to this thread over in the forums. I hope you'll take on this challenge with me this year. I'm looking forward to becoming a better me, I hope you are too!

Weekly Challenge! 1/10 - 1/16/2011

Good Monday Morning everyone!

I'm bringing you this week's challenge. And it's an honest to goodness challenge, so prepare yourself, lol! Here's the details - one thing that makes Paper Posies unique is their alterable item included in each kit, right? My confession - I'm not a huge fan of altering things. Don't boo me, I just think that it's a tad out of my comfort zone. But every so often I get the urge to try my hand and altering and see if I can make something pretty. :)

Here's what I did:

I had this hot chocolate tin left over from the holidays that I couldn't quite throw away.

It's cute, right? I thought so too! I thought if I added a little paper and ribbon, that it'd be even cuter!

So I pulled out an old Paper Posies kit. I dug deep (since Valentines is right around the corner) and decided to use the February 2010 kit. What did I find? The cute Maya Road love chipboard keychain, perfect for enhancing this tin!

I cut, glued, misted, mod podged, irocked, ribboned, and braded.... and came up with this fun little tin to fill with some Hershey kisses to give to one of my kids or hubby for Valentines!

I had so much fun putting it together! And yes! I used both the tin I wanted to alter AND the little chipboard album from the Feb '10 kit! I took it apart and used both hearts, and put the "love" on the front. I just have the little arrow left that I may spray or cover and glue to the back. Endless possibilities here!

So, my challenge is this - pull out an alterable item from a past Paper Posies kit and USE it! Use it however you want - add it to a page layout, make a mini-book, or do what I did and add it to another alterable item you have laying around.

Remember, use a Paper Posies kit - and ANY past Paper Posies kit is fine. Also, have your project loaded and linked back to this thread by next Sunday evening, January 16th.

I can't wait to see what you all come up with!

Happy New Year from everyone at Paper Posies. I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful New Year’s weekend. I’m so excited to be posting the first challenge for 2011!!! As you all know I’m one of the new Design Team Members here at Paper Posies and I cannot express to you enough how fun it is getting to know you all.

For this week’s challenge I wanted to focus on 2011 GOALS/RESOULUTIONS. I try not to make impossible goals, but ones I know with a little effort I can accomplish. Here’s a little File Card Mini Book I made with some 2011 Goals using the January 2011 PP Kit. I’m sure most of you have already received or ordered your amazing January 2011 Paper Posies Kit; here’s an idea of what to do with those left over scraps you might have.

So my challenge to for you ... Make a LAYOUT, MINI BOOK, or ALTERED ITEM with your 2011 GOALS or RESOULUTIONS you might have. If you haven't received your January kit, that's okay - use any Paper Posies kit.

*Post your Project or a Link to your Project in the challenge thread by midnight, Sunday, Jan. 9th.

Weekly Challenge! 12/13 - 12/19/2010

Hi everyone. I'm bringing you this week's challenge. And it's a little predictable, considering the season. Hope you all don't mind. :) On my mind right now is Christmas cards and my math final. Since I couldn't figure out how to incorporate math into scrapbooking (I'm sure that I could have, but honestly it just seems wrong...). I decided to make my challenge all about making cards.

I have three examples to show you, using the December Paper Posies kit:

All three used most of the same papers from the kit, but with each one, I made it a different size and used different embellishments. So, my challenge to you is this:

Make at least TWO cards. Make each of them a different size or shape (I really want to make a circle card!). If you haven't received your December kit, that's okay - use any Paper Posies kit and make any kind of card for any occasion!

Load up your cards to the gallery and/or think us to them on the challenge thread by next Sunday, December 19th.

Stocking Ornaments

Today we are making Christmas stocking ornaments!

These are a little more detailed than the snowflakes

but still easily to make.

You will need a stocking template.

Find one online

just trace a little stocking you already have onto paper.

And, you will need your Dec Kit of course! :)

Ok, let's get started......

You will need 2 pieces of paper approximately 5x7

(one cardstock and one pattern paper)

Stack papers on top of each other.

Do not adhere any of the papers together.

Trace a stocking shape on the pattern paper (use pencil)

Make sure the edges at the top are lined up before tracing.

Keeping the papers together stitch along the pencil line.

You dont have a sewing machine?? No worries...here are some alternative solutions....

You could poke holes and hand stitch.....

or use staples....

or use mini brads.....

or even just use a little bit of wet glue and allow to dry completely.
Be creative and use whatever your little heart desires.

After you've attached your papers cut out stocking shape with decorative scissors.

I used pinking shears here but you could use scallop, regular or any other shape.

It will look like this when you're finished cutting.

Now you've got to make your stocking look used and scuffed.

Paint the edges with some cream paint.

Get messy with this!

After it's dry rub some distressed ink along the edges.

Time to make the cuff.

Cut 2 strips of paper approx 1" and 1.25"

Scallop the edge if desired.

Or you could cut a wave or use other decorative scissors.

Adhere the larger cuff on the back and the shorter cuff on the front.

TIME TO STUFF!

Cotton rounds are about $2 at Target. :)

Use whatever stuffing you have on hand.

Cut 4-5 rounds in half.

Fold each half round in half and stuff inside stocking.

Use tweezers or bone folder to push a few rounds into the bottom of the stocking.

You only want the stocking to puff a little bit so it "looks" like fabric. ;)

Now you're ready to seal it shut.

Apply some wet glue to the inside edge and press.

Let dry completely!

(these also make great gift card holders, leave open if desired.)

Add some glitter (stickles) to your cuff.

After it dries, punch a hole and thread thru some pretty ribbon.

Attach brad.

You could even add a punched shape under the brad for a more decorative look.

TIME TO EMBELLISH!!

Stack and layer pattern papers and embellies of your choice.

Wrap around with ribbon and tie on a button.

Hang on your tree and enjoy!

Snowflake Ornaments!

Hi Everyone!
Sonda here to bring you a fun ornament tutorial you can easily make for Christmas.
You can even get the kids involved! :)
So grab your Dec Kit and some empty toilet paper tubes
and
let's get started!

*You will need ONE tube per ornament.*
Smoosh the empty tube flat with your hands.

It doesn't have to be completely flat.

Cut the flat tube into 5 pieces approximately all the same width.

Just eyeball it.

You'll end up with 5 "petals".

Now the fun and messy part begins.

Paint the petals inside and then outside.

Let dry.

I really like how the edges flip up.

It's messy, remember? hee hee

(or use spray paint. Just use whatever you have on hand.)

See how messy they are?

Some of the kraft tube color is showing through.

Some of the edges have come away from the tube.

THAT'S OK!

You want them to look like that. :)

When you're done painting you're fingers should look like THIS! LOL :)

Pinch all the petals so you can see the tips well.

Then, place them together to form a star shape.

(there's even a star shape in the middle)

Start gluing the petals together one side at a time.

Use clips if you want.

Let dry thoroughly.

(or use a hot glue gun or staples)

After the glue is dry you will see this.

Some of the petals are higher than the others.

That's ok too......

...just flip it over so you can use the even side to embellish.

Remember, it's Handmade not Hallmark. :)

Now the fun embellishing begins.

YIPPY!!

Adhere a large circle (approx 2") to the center

and

some silver glitter (stickles) to the petal edges.

See the glitter on the "edges" of the petals?

Use your 2" circle as your embellishment zone.

Add as much or as little to it as you'd like.

Layer embellishments and use pop dots for depth.

See the depth?

Wrap some ribbon or cord around for extra hold.

Poke 2 holes in the top and thread twine.

Now you're finished and ready to hang on your tree. :)

December Sneak Peek #3

Hi again! It's me here to bring you the last peek before the December kits go live on Wednesday, November 24th. Yes, a whole day earlier than usual since Thanksgiving is on the 25th and no doubt we will all be spending time with family and friends. Make sure you stalk the home page for the latest update. I cant wait for you all to see it in FULL VIEW! Get yourself ready for Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of my favorites to use at Christmas time is silver. Silver glitter, silver anything. It adds just the right amount of sparkle!

I'm also going to leave you with this awesome peek from Michele partly because of the most gorgeous cranberry trim I have ever seen and partly because she used those favorite alphas of mine. :) (see that little snowflake...oh ya, that's felt!! oh la la)

Hi everyone! I'm back with another Thankful post. I hope you all enjoyed the Thankful challenge I posted here. If you didnt get a chance to participate you can still do the challenge on your own. Just have fun with it. This month we are all thinking about being thankful!

Today I want to show you something so easy you can make with your kit leftovers. I am all about recycling and reusing. Take an empty PopTarts box (or cookie or cracker box) and cover it with 2 cardstock pieces. The seams are on the sides. Embellish the front, punch 2 holes in the front and back, tie on some ribbon and you have a great gift box. (The thankful for tag I used can be found here as a free download.) Now you can fill your box with whatever you choose...cookies, homemade breads, store bought treats, gifts, etc.

Scraplift Challenge - week of Nov. 8-14

Happy Monday everyone. It's my turn to present you all with a weekly challenge for the month of November. I know it sounds like it's illegal or at least morally wrong, but really - I've read up on the subject and have received multiple confirmations that SCRAPLIFTING is an okay thing to do. Granted, credit should always be given to those that we scraplift, but you should never ever feel guilty about lifting.

Phew... now that I got that out of the way, here's the layout I want to you all to scraplift. It's in the November PP DT gallery by our wonderful guest designer, Cari Fennell. I chose this layout because I loved all the layering and use of patterned paper. I thought it would be fun to see how each of you lift it and pick different elements of it to use on your own layout.

Here's my layout I created, using Cari's as inspiration. I used my favorite PP kit from 2010 - the September kit. As you can tell, I lifted the basic design, using all the different layers and photo placement. I also liked the distressed edges in Cari's layout so I roughed up mine also and added a little ink.

Now it's your turn. Put any hesitations aside that scraplifting isn't allowed and lift away! I can't wait to see what you create!

Thankful Challenge

Good Monday Morning Everyone!

Im here to bring you another weekly challenge. I know the November kits are not in your hands yet but they will be soon!! You can start thinking now about how you want to use it. :) This week I want you to think about what you are thankful for. Think beyond the family and friends...try to think about things that wouldn't come to mind right away.

For my layout here I chose to use a photo I shot over my shoulder. See my sleeve there in the corner? I just thought it would be cool to take a shot of what was behind me. We were leaving the canyon at the time and it was my way of saying goodbye to the awesomeness before me. I can't even begin to tell you how far down it was. Way too far!!

I kept thinking I am so very thankful for colored vision. Can you even imagine looking at this in black and white? No? Well take a look at what it would look like without color! The blue sky & canyon is now grey and dreary. What a difference huh?

This week I want you to create a layout about what you are thankful for and include some things you might not normally think of. Use any Paper Posies Kit you have and place your image in the gallery before next Sunday, November 7th to be entered in the Paper Posies prize pack drawing. Michele always has great prizes to giveaway each month!

Fall Favorites Challenge - Week of 10/25

Fall is in full swing here in North Idaho - the leaves are all changing color, it's been freezing at night, we put the teapot on everyday for hot chocolate or my favorite mint tea, it's almost Halloween, I'm wearing long sleeves and sweaters, rain-rain-rain with snow in the forecast - yep, it's autumn time!

Since I'm feeling in a really autumn-ish mood, I thought a Fall Favorites challenge would be in order. Sooooo, scrap your favorite things about Fall! No, I haven't done a sample myself yet (I know, I know - I've been busy scrapping for November's reveal), but I'm thinking some pics of my favorite cup with hot chocolate and piled high with whip cream, the pumpkin/scarecrows on the front porch, a pile of my favorite sweaters... something along those lines with some journaling of course. We'll see how it goes. :) Feel free to put your twist on this challenge however you desire!

Weekly Challenge (10/18) - From October Guest Designer, Mou Saha

This weeks challenge is brought to us by October's guest designer, Mou:

Create free standing accents with kit leftovers.

I used leftover patterened papers and cardstock from the Paper Posies October kit to paper-piece a pumpkin. Added stitching around and a button for a more finished look. I can now use this colorful pumpkin as accent on a layout or a card or even use it in home decor. I mounted mine on cardboard and punched holes to tuck it in a little corner somewhere. Using up your leftovers from each kit saves you the trouble of filing them away, wastage from tossing them and the best part is that it makes it very easy to create themed accents because the colors are just right because Michele has already done all the coordinating for you. Now, you can have handmade accents to use on a future layout.

Have fun, ladies! I can't wait to see what accents you come up with using kit scraps! This will be great inspiration for all of us! Share your creations (on our message board - www.paperposies.ning.com) by next Sunday night to be eligible for October's prize packet!

New weekly challenge 10/11/10

Hello everyone! I'm bringing you this weeks challenge. :)

Last month I challenged you to use cardstock and only one piece of patterned paper.... so can you guess what this months challenge might be? I want you to create a layout using ONLY patterned paper - and NO cardstock! It can be done, I promise. Get creative in putting your patterned papers together. Look for light prints when you need a journaling block or paper to back a photo. It's a lot of fun to do and I think you'll enjoy the chance to use up all the gorgeous patterned paper that's coordinated so well in our Paper Posies kits.

Need an example or two? Look in the DT gallery - you'll see several uses of it. Here are a few from this month:

Neighborly Gifts Challenge - Week of Oct 4th

Hi Everyone!!
It's Monday and that means it's time for another weekly challenge! WOOOHOOO! This week I want to challenge you to create something besides a layout. Grab your favorite Paper Posies Kit and let's get started!

Create a gift for someone special in your life! This could be a neighbor who helped you by mowing your lawn, your pastor, your friend, your mom, your sister, a co-worker...whoever it is make it special. These "cookie bags" that I created are for some dear friends of ours in North Carolina.

My husband and I had the pleasure of photographing their wedding last June. We miss them a lot so I thought I would create a special gift to let them know we were thinking of them. Photo Shoot Challenge - Week of Sept 27th

First off, I'm so sorry I forgot to post my challenge yesterday. I totally spaced it. Please forgive my preggo-brain. But, hopefully it was worth waiting for! :)

To start off with, I made a goal last year when my little Tanner turned 2 that I wanted to do a photo shoot each fall with the boys (both have fall birthdays so I decided that around their birthdays was a good time). Most of the pictures I take are candid shots and I wanted to improve my photography skills while making sure I have "good" pictures of the boys to look back on in years to come. So, last week, since it was the week after TanMan's birthday, I took the boys to the local arboretum and spent about an hour and a half taking "set up" and candid shots of them - capturing some really precious memories and having a lot of fun together. And as a bonus, *hopefully* I'm becoming a better photographer in the process. :)

So, your challenge is two-fold. First, I would like to challenge you to plan and execute a photo shoot. You don't have to make it a huge deal like I did (new shirts and away from the house), but I would like it to be a conscience effort to capture some memories, subject, etc.

Next, feel free to share some of your photo-shoot photos on our message board (www.paperposies.ning.com). (Not a requirement for the challenge.)

Last, share something you scrap using your photo-shoot photos. (Even I haven't done this yet...)

I realize this is a BIG challenge, so guess what?! - You have until the end of OCTOBER to complete it! And if we get lots of participation, maybe this challenge will have to have a prize of its own!

Getting Creative With Cardstock!

Good morning everyone! It's our favorite time of the week again... time for our weekly challenge here at Paper Posies. :)

I want you to think about your Paper Posies kits.... what makes them so great? Why do we look forward to that box every month? For me, it's the variety of patterned paper that goes together so well, and the double alphabets - LOVE those... and the ribbons and assorted embellies...mmmm, so fun to see how it'll all work together! But wait! There's another thing about these kits that I absolutely adore! It's the great assortment of CARDSTOCK in each kit! Right?

So, my challenge for you this week is this:

Look through your stash of Paper Posies kits (no matter how big or how small that may be). Pull out the cardstock! Use that cardstock to create a layout. For this challenge only ONE piece of patterned paper is allowed, but feel free to use as many different pieces of cardstock that you want - and whatever embellies you want.

For my sample layout I used the June 2010 kit. Yup, only one piece of patterned paper was used in this layout, but I was sneaky and used both sides of the paper. ;) I found that using border punches helped give the layout some extra texture and pattern... and adding some shapes and a few accents helped pull it all together too.

So, get busy, create with cardstock (and only ONE piece of patterned paper) and link or post your creations in the challenge thread in the PP forum by next Sunday night, Sept 19th at 11:59 pm. Remember, for every challenge you participate in, you'll get your name entered to win a super fabulous Paper Posies Prize!

New "Size It Up" Monday Challenge

Hello from IOWA! Here is your weekly challenge from all the way across the country. :) Hope you are all enjoying your Labor Day!

Your challenge this week: Scrap a size you don't normally scrap. So if you're a typical 12x12 scrapper switch it up a bit and try a different size....8.5x11 or 8x8 or 6x12 or any size you want. ALSO, use the banner stickers/shapes in a new way besides for a BANNER. For my layout I cut a 12x12 sheet of the cream cardstock in half and scrapped my page. The banner pieces are cut out from the banner paper, using the back side, and placed under the title letters.

Now go grab your most recent Paper Posies kit and take on this challenge. Have your layout posted in the gallery by Sunday, September 12th to be eligible for a fabulous Paper Posies prize.

New weekly challenge!

Hi everyone! For the first seven months of the year I took challenges out of the book by Elizabeth Kartchner, 52 More Scrapbooking Challenges. Last month was the last month in that series, so closing that series of challenges and moving on to my more random, personal challenges. :D

I'm excited to bring you today's challenge. I took your comments from the forum when I asked your opinions about challenges and kinda combined a bunch of them together. This is what I came up with:

Check out this ad from a House Beautiful magazine:

What do you like about it? Does it inspire you in any way? My first impression when looking at it, was the color palette. I loved the gray/tan/dark brown/yellow combination. Liked it A LOT! Then I noticed that you could see a page design in it as well, so I sketched this:

Keep in mind that I am in NO WAY a sketch artist! Whoa, this is a rough looking sketch! But, it gave me a starting point, right? So, then I looked through some of my past Paper Posies kits and didn't have to look far to decide that the July 2010 kit would be perfect for what I had in mind. I honestly didn't have much more than scraps left of that kit, so I added two sheets of cardstock - a grey and a a brown - to the mix and it worked out perfectly. I also decided to scrap some pictures of my dh and his new car from about 8 years ago. It was a big event for him, an this color scheme seemed to fit the bill quite nicely. What do you think?

As a side note, I had a lot of fun making the little accent flower in the bottom right hand corner. I saw on a blog somewhere that somebody had made a flower with the Pink Paislee tape (I apologize for not remembering who or what or how), so I tried my hand at it. I punched out a circle, tore of strips of tape and kinda gathered them around the circle in pleats and layers. I then added a MM silver brad in the middle to finish it off. Here's a close-up:

Soooo, after that long explanation, I come to the challenge! Go back and look at the original ad... look at my sketch... and remind yourself of the tan/grey/dark brown/yellow color scheme. See how those three things inspire you. Then, look through your pictures and your Paper Posies kit and do a layout! If only one of the elements inspire you, use it! If all of them do, go for it! If somehow you're inspired in a way that I didn't mention, let me know what it is and then create a layout based on it! Just let yourself be inspired and create. :)

I'm just dropping in really quick to share another page I did with the July Paper Posies kit... I haven't decided if my favorite part of this kit is the OA papers or the Paperie Chipboard letters. Both I love, but I mostly love how all the products work together so wonderfully!

I printed out some 2x3 pictures I took with my iphone of a quick dh and I took to Chicago a couple of months ago. I LOVE Chicago! The whole "memories" theme of the paper and tags worked perfectly for accenting this page too. And since the trip was about seeing a concert, I covered one of the chipboard tickets in patterned paper to use as a journaling tag :)

New Monday Challenge

It's time for another Monday Challenge!

If you're following along with me this year, you'll know that I'm taking my challenges from Elizabeth Kartchner's 52 More Scrapbooking Challenges. Each month I pick a challenge from a new challenge. This month we're in the last chapter, "Photo Fun." There were a lot of fun options in this section, but I chose #47 (p. 146),

Highlight - don't hide - an imperfect shot

I'll admit that I was a little nervous about this challenge. I have plenty of imperfect photos, but they tend to be a little difficult to scrap sometimes. When I'm scrapping these photos I usually try and keep the page a little simpler, with lighter embellishments so I don't overpower the photos. That's just me and how I work. You may be different.

Elizabeth gives some hints on how to scrap these photos. She suggests camouflaging the photo with a corner accent, other elements such as a title or even layering another photo.

For my page I chose to use a set of pictures of my youngest son and his buddy. They were taken about eight years ago before we got our digital camera. They were a little dark and fuzzy, quick snapshots. I originally had four photos, but I eliminated one and decided to work with three. I used the April 2010 kit and originally put it all on a kraft background. When that just wasn't working I just pulled everything up and put it on a white background. Somehow that made a big difference. It lightened up the page, I believe. :) It's not my favorite layout ever, but I'm okay with putting it in my album and calling it done!

Monday Challenge Week 7/5-7/11

Hi Everyone!
I'm here to share with you a fun challenge using the lace cardstock included in your kit! It's time to do something DIFFERENT with this fabulous product!
First I'm going to show you how to use the back side of the lace cardstock as a mask on your layout. Place the lace cardstock upside down on top of your project or paper. Hold firmly. Rub ink all over the on top making sure to get ink in all the openings. Be careful not to bend the paper. Use can use many items to apply your ink (sponge, cotton ball, brush, etc...) or apply it directly if you want a darker shade. The best part...the front side, which is pink, will still be usable! :) Here's my layout:

And here's a quick card I created using the same technique only this time I sprayed glimmer mist. You could use many different spray products as well.

Second, I want to challenge you to embellish the front side of the lace cardstock! Be creative and add some sparkle, shine or anything else you can imagine. You could use paint, stickles, glitter, pearls, etc.. You can even change the color if you prefer. Here's my layout using stickles on top of the lace cardstock:

Border pages are my favorite new tools, and I love finding ways to use them! With this page, I didn't stick to just one punch, but used 3 from my collection to create a series of strips. The strips almost look like ribbon on the page, creating an illusion of layers and texture when it's actually quite simple to create! Layered border strips are also a great way to get small punches of color and pattern on your page without overwhelming the overall design. Hi everyone! I'm just stopping by with one more page of inspiration for you! I just loved the fun, whimsical papers in the June kit and thought it might be fun to use some Disney photos with them. Here's what I came up with:

It's a little crazy with all the patterns and colors, but it makes me smile every time I look at it. And my favorite part of this month's kit? The Jillibean corrugated alphabet... oh, so wonderful and fun to use. :)

New Monday Challenge

Happy Monday morning everyone! :)

Today's challenge is the 6th challenge taken from Elizabeth Kartchner's book, 52 More Scrapbook Challenges. This is a fun section too - It's all about TECHNIQUES. There were a lot of fun options to choose from, but I decided on #43 in the book, p. 131 -

"Sew on Your Page in an Innovative Way"

In this section Elizabeth talks about how sewing on a page can sometimes be a little intimidating. She says the following: "I was at first, too, but now it's one of my go-to techniques. I just love that homespun effect the versatility of adding my own personal touch to my pages. So even if you hand stitch, it's time to play with needle and thread."

You have lots of options with this challenge. Basically I want you to somehow add some kind of sewing technique to you layout. Whether it be with a machine or hand stitched (free-hand or using a template), I just want you to sew! And if sewing on your layout isn't really something new, I challenge you to take it a step further. Try something a little different with your sewing. The idea with this challenge is to push you a little outside of your comfort zone!

Here's the layout I did for this challenge. I used items mostly from the February 2010 kit. I stitched two pieces of paper together on the diagonal and then framed the main photo mat with a stitch to tie it all together. For me, using the red thread (instead of a neutral black, white or brown) was a little different, as was stitching two pieces of paper together!

10 Things I Love... Challenge (Week of May 24th)

Ladies, I HOPE you're not all challenged out from the last week of so many great challenges and partying because here's our normal weekly challenge!!!

Your challenge this week is to create a layout with the title "10 Things I Love _________" (you fill in the blank here). I chose to do mine on 10 Things I Love About Being "Mom". Your's can be whatever you'd like it to be about, just remember this is part of the "ME challenge" series so just make sure you make this challenge about YOU! Some other topics I thought would be fun: 10 Things I Love... *about being a Grandma, * about being the boss, *about being a Christian, *about being goofy, *about being the go-to girl, *about sleeping in, *about the weekend, *about [where I live], etc! There are SO many possibilities!

Have fun, use ANY Paper Posies kit, and complete the challenge by Sunday, May 30th.
